[Spoiler warning for season 1 of House of the Dragon, no spoilers for season 2]
I’m a huge A Song of Ice and Fire fan, but watching House of the Dragon, I sometimes find myself losing track of the various dragons and their riders, so I’ve made this helpful cheat-sheet. It shows every dragon at the start of the Dance of the Dragons, which coincides with the end of Season 1 of HBO’s House of the Dragon.
All info is based on the book Fire and Blood, which may differ slightly here and there from show canon.
Big names show current riders, smaller names show previous riders.
I’ve also shown the approximate ages of the dragons, because while a dragon’s age isn’t directly proportional to its size or power, generally older dragons are bigger and more formidable
Team Black has 7 dragons, with a combined age of around 180. Lucerys and his young dragon Arrax died in season 1, before the war really got started, so they aren’t included here.
Team Green has 6 dragons, for a combined age of over 300 (Vhagar alone is as old as all the Black’s dragons combined).
There are also 6 dragons on Dragonstone that have no riders: 3 whose previous riders have died (or in the case of Laenor in the show, disappeared), and 3 wild dragons who have never had riders. Their combined ages are well over 400 years.
Hope this helps you keep track of all the magical nuclear lizards going forwards.
